Liam came home after school and reached into his backpack for his house key. It was not there. He checked every pocket, looked inside his lunch bag, and searched the ground near his front door. The key was gone, and Liam started to feel worried.

Then he remembered something. On his way home, he had stopped at the playground to watch his friends play soccer. Maybe the key fell out of his pocket there. Liam decided to walk back to the park to look for it.

At the playground, he carefully checked the benches, the swings, and the path. He looked under leaves and between the stones. After a few minutes, he saw something small and shiny under a bench. It was his key! Liam felt a wave of relief.

A woman sitting nearby smiled at him. "I saw it earlier," she said, "and I hoped the owner would come back for it. I didn't want to take it, in case you were still looking."

Liam thanked her kindly for watching over the key. He was grateful that someone had been so honest and careful. This time, he placed the key inside a small zippered pocket in his backpack so it would not fall out again.

When Liam finally reached his front door and unlocked it, he felt happy and calm. His mistake had taught him an important lesson. From that day on, he always checked for his key before leaving home, and he never lost it again.

Liam picked up the key and thanked the woman. As he walked home, he noticed that the key was slightly bent. He wondered how it had fallen under the bench. When he reached his house, he tried the key in the lock, but it did not work. Liam became worried again. He decided to call his mother and explain what had happened. She came home soon after and helped him find a spare key. From that day on, Liam always kept his house key in a safe pocket.

Liam: Why didn't you take it? Woman: I thought the owner might come back to look for it. Liam: Thank you for leaving it there. Woman: You're welcome. I'm glad you found it. Liam: I will be much more careful with it next time.
