Liam came home after school and reached into his backpack for his house key. It was not there. He checked every pocket, looked inside his lunch bag, and even searched the ground near his front door. The key was gone, and he began to feel a little worried.
Liam sat down on the steps and tried to remember his day. Then he remembered something important. On his way home, he had stopped at the playground to watch his friends play soccer. Maybe the key had fallen out of his bag while he was sitting there.
He stood up quickly and walked back to the park. The sun was starting to go down, so he knew he did not have much time. Liam carefully looked around the benches, the swings, and the path near the trees. He checked every corner, but at first he could not find anything.
After a few minutes, he noticed something small and shiny under a bench. He bent down and picked it up. It was his key.
A woman sitting nearby smiled at him and said, "I saw it earlier and hoped the owner would return."
Liam smiled back and thanked her for keeping an eye on it. He was very grateful that she had noticed it and left it there for him.
This time, Liam did not put the key loosely in his bag. Instead, he placed it inside a small zippered pocket so it would not fall out again. He checked the zipper twice to make sure it was closed.
When he finally arrived home and unlocked the front door, he felt happy and relieved. He walked inside and sat down, thinking about how lucky he was.
From that day on, Liam always checked for his key before leaving the house, and he never lost it again.
