Liam came home after school on a warm afternoon. He put his hand into his backpack to find his house key. It was not there. He felt a little worried and started to search more carefully. He checked every pocket of his backpack, but he found nothing. Then he opened his lunch bag and looked inside, just in case the key had fallen there by accident. Still, there was no key. Finally, he got down on his knees and searched the ground near his front door, thinking it might have dropped when he was getting his backpack ready. The key was simply gone.

Liam stopped and tried to remember his day. Where had he been after school? Then he remembered something important. He had stopped at the playground for a while to watch his friends play soccer. He had put his backpack down on a bench while he watched the game and cheered for his team. Maybe the key had fallen out of his bag at that moment, without him noticing.

Liam decided to walk back to the park right away, before it got dark. When he arrived, he began to look around carefully. He checked near the benches, under the swings, and along the path where he usually walked. He moved slowly and looked at the ground with great attention, hoping to find even the smallest sign of his key. After a few minutes of searching, he noticed something small and shiny under a bench. His heart jumped with hope. He walked closer and bent down. It was his key.

Just then, a friendly woman sitting nearby on another bench smiled at him. "I saw it earlier," she said kindly, "and I hoped the owner would come back for it. That's why I didn't move it." Liam felt very grateful for her kindness. He thanked her warmly for keeping an eye on his key and for not letting anyone else take it.

This time, Liam did not want to make the same mistake again. Instead of putting the key loosely in his backpack, he placed it carefully inside a small zippered pocket, where it would be safe and would not fall out so easily. He checked the zipper twice to make sure it was closed properly.

When Liam finally arrived home and unlocked his front door, he felt a wave of happiness and relief. He was glad the key was safe again, and he was thankful that a kind stranger had helped him without even knowing his name.

From that day on, Liam always checked for his key before he left the house. He also made a habit of checking his backpack again before leaving any place, like school or the park. He learned an important lesson that day: small habits, like checking your things carefully, can save you a lot of worry and trouble later.

The next morning, Liam woke up early and packed his bag calmly. He checked his key, smiled proudly, and walked to school feeling confident, organized, and ready for a peaceful day.

Change the Ending

Write a new ending for the story. Keep the story the same until Liam finds the key under the bench, but change what happens next.
Liam picked up the key and looked at it carefully. Just then, the friendly woman walked over to him. She smiled and told him that she had found it earlier. Liam thanked her and put the key safely in his pocket. Before leaving the park, Liam noticed his backpack was still on the bench. He opened it and checked everything inside. To his surprise, he found another small key in one of the pockets. He suddenly realized that he had been carrying a spare key all along. Liam laughed at his mistake and thanked the woman again. From that day on, he always checked his bags carefully before going anywhere. He also decided to keep his spare key in a safe place at home.

Dialogue

Woman: I found it earlier and left it there because I thought you might come back. Liam: Thank you so much. I was really worried. Woman: You're welcome. I'm glad you found it. Liam: I really appreciate your help. Woman: Just be more careful with it next time. Liam: I will. I'll keep it in a safe pocket from now on.
